Amazfit Bip 6

Amazfit Bip 6 Review: The $79.99 Watch I Prefer Over Fitbit, Garmin & Samsung

I bought it because I wanted a less-expensive watch for running and health metrics that still looked polished enough for work. Almost six months later, I'm still finding things it does that make me say, “Wait—this watch does THAT too?”

Who it's for

  • Excellent battery life
  • Health and heart-rate metrics
  • Running and workout tracking
  • Custom workouts
  • Phone notifications
  • Music controls
  • Lots of useful functionality
  • A watch that transitions well between workouts and professional/everyday wear
  • Strong value without spending several hundred dollars

Who it isn't for

I use the Amazfit Bip 6 with a Samsung Galaxy S23 and have had an excellent experience.

I do not own Apple products, so I cannot personally vouch for its integration or user experience with an iPhone or other Apple products.

Pros and cons

The short version.

  • Battery life
  • Running and custom workouts
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 integration
  • Find My Phone
  • Eject Water
  • Health metrics
  • Professional appearance

The one con

In almost six months, I have encountered only one minor annoyance: Occasionally I accidentally activate the screen-lock feature. When that happens, I can't simply glance at the watch and immediately check something until I unlock it. That's genuinely the only thing I've found that bothers me.

The features she loves

The details, when you want them.

Battery life

I normally charge it every 4–5 days, and I've gone more than a week between charges.

My favorite real-life proof: I took it to a weeklong church camp with my two oldest kids and forgot the charger at home. When I got home, the watch still had 20% battery remaining.

Coming from watches that made charging another thing I had to remember, that blew my mind.

Running and custom workouts

I regularly use the workout features, heart-rate monitoring and health metrics.

I can also create my own running workouts in the Zepp app and sync them directly to the watch so the watch guides me through the workout.

The first time I tried creating my own running workout, I expected setup to be complicated. It took me literally a couple of minutes.

Samsung Galaxy S23 integration

My experience using it with my Samsung Galaxy S23 has been excellent.

Calls, texts, emails and app notifications display easily on the watch. There are numerous app integrations, and it connects to my phone's music particularly well, allowing me to control music from my watch during a run without messing with my phone.

Find My Phone

I use the Find My Phone feature ALL THE TIME.

It may sound like a minor feature until you're a working mother who puts her phone down somewhere approximately 900 times a day.

Founder proof is still pending for this feature; no demonstration has been supplied.

Eject Water

One of my favorite unexpected discoveries is the Eject Water feature, which helps clear water from the watch after it gets wet.

This is one of those features I didn't know I needed and was delighted to discover on a $79.99 watch.

Founder proof is still pending for this feature; no demonstration has been supplied.

Health metrics

I regularly use the heart-rate monitoring, workout information and other available health metrics.

Professional appearance

This mattered more to me than I expected.

I wanted something I could use for workouts and running and wear in a professional/executive setting without feeling like I had a giant sports watch strapped to my wrist.

The Bip 6 works for both parts of my life.

Why I bought it

I wasn't looking for another expensive smartwatch.

I wanted something that would track my health metrics, handle my running workouts and still look nice enough to wear every day. My Garmin worked, but it always felt a little too sporty for me to wear in a professional setting.

So I decided to try the Amazfit Bip 6 because it was significantly less expensive.

I expected to compromise.

I didn't.

It probably took about a week before I realized I actually preferred it to the more expensive watches I'd owned.

Compared with watches I've owned

These are my personal preferences based on the particular Fitbit, Garmin and Samsung watches I've owned and the way I use a smartwatch. They are not universal comparisons across every model from those brands.

Fitbit

There is nothing I personally think Fitbit did better for the way I use a smartwatch.

Garmin

I don't feel that my Garmin did anything better for my needs, and I prefer the Amazfit's appearance for everyday and professional wear.

Samsung

There is nothing from my Samsung watch that I personally feel I am sacrificing.

Battery

The Amazfit battery life has been considerably better in my experience than the other three.

Why it earned approval

Researched with my head

It gives me the functionality I personally want from watches that cost considerably more.

Tested in real life

Almost six months of work, kids, workouts, running, travel and normal everyday use.

Earned the yes

I bought it expecting an inexpensive alternative.

I ended up preferring it.

If you're spending several hundred dollars on a smartwatch because you assume you have to, I'd look at this one first.
